7th graders from Belmont-Cragin Elementary had a great time at the first field trip of the year to the Museum of Science and Industry on Saturday, November 15. These were the first students to experience our new Mission Leader program! The Award-A-Field Trip (AAFT) program provides Chicago Public School students with an exciting learning experience at world-renowned museums in Chicago, such as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Chicago History Museum, the Field Museum, and the Adler Planetarium.
Beginning this fall, each field trip will be accompanied by three Mission Leaders. These trained volunteers are able to guide students through each exhibit by providing in-depth information about the most interesting parts of the collection. “New and exciting things are happening with Award-A-Field Trip!” says Kaila Zogheb, the director of AAFT. “We have about 15 new mission leaders who are excited and committed to our program. We are also implementing our mission based curricula at all of our museums, so that we can expand the quality of each of our trips!” Supplies for Dreams will be taking another five classrooms on field trips this quarter.
